Jennifer Zheng 鄭佳 Plays Scherzo op.31 by Chopin, F.

Jennifer Jia Zheng. She may be look like your typical Grade 10 high school student; however, she is not an ordinary girl, as her passion for music distinguishes her from what you may call the typical teenager. She first started learning piano when she was six and a half with Mrs. Quefei Kang from the Shanghai Conservatory. She started flute much later at the age of 11 from Mr. Mizi Tan, who was a former professor from the Shanghai Conservatory. At 13, she received her ARCT Performer in piano, and then at 15, she received her ARCT Performer for flute. Currently, she is learning piano from Professor Xiao from the Shanghai Conservatory and flute from Mr. Tan.
Achievements in music competitions started when she was only 11, when she won 2 first places for Grade 9 piano at Peel Music Festival. As a result, she was also awarded a scholarship for her fine accomplishments at such a young age. The following year, she achieved another first place from Peel Music Festival for piano. In 2007, she was awarded with first place in the piano open level and a scholarship from the Peel Music Festival. During the following year, she obtained second and third place in piano in the Burlington Rotary Music Festival. In this recent year, Jennifer has competed in her first flute competition in the Canadian Flute Association First Annual Flute Competition where she achieved 2 third places in the open level. After, she entered the Peel Music Festival, where she not only achieved 2 gold medals and scholarship in flute open level, but also 2 gold medals and scholarship in the piano open level as well. Aside from her individual successes, she is also an active musician in school and the community. From elementary school, she accompanied the choir on piano and played flute in band. She also performed in various celebratory concerts as a soloist. The school concert band she participates in recently received a Gold standing at National’s for Musicfest in Ottawa. On top of all this, she also accompanies soloists for exams and competitions, and teaches two students of her own.
